Family Fun

Our family plays at Auckland’s infield 9-hole Ellerslie Racecourse. A reasonable fee is charged, $16 for each adult. Children and senior’s fee; $12. No bookings are required, just turn up, pay the fee and have fun. This small course is ideal for families who want to hang out for an hour or two, no golf experience necessary.

Hire Equipment or Bring Your Own

The golf shop hires clubs and sells golf balls or bring your own clubs. Regular players can get by with just a wedge and putter. If you're new to the game or still learning, a 7 or 8 iron can make things easier.

The Course

It is not a full-sized course, but a mini-sized 9-hole course. Every hole is a par three. Little trees, one or two shallow bunkers, and light rough are the only obstacles.

Games We Play

Individual players can use two balls to complete an 18-hole score.

Teams of two or three have the option of adding the scores at the end of the round, lowest score wins.

Best ball. Everyone tees off at each hole, then selects the ball in the best position to score. Team members each play a shot from the best ball position until the ball is holed.

Stableford. It’s possible to score using this method if everyone starts from scratch and are of equal ability. For family fun I wouldn’t recommend it.
