MAGA in Retreat, Australia, Canada, Europe.

“Did not need to beg or borrow or copy from anywhere else." Anthony Albanese.

Prime Minister Australia, Anthony Albanese
Prime Minister Australia, Anthony Albanese

Australia

In May, this year our nearest neighbor Australia held their general elections. Albanese leading the incumbent ruling party, overcame the incumbency curse, winning reelection in a landslide. Running on policies of concern; at the rising costs of living, providing moderate and stable leadership, a message of fairness and kindness. Some Kiwis will resonate with this message, words spoken by our former PM Jacinda Ardern, during covid.

A key factor contributing to Albanese and his party succeeding was a contrast to the opposition. There was a perception that opposition leader, Peter Dutton, adopted Trumpian tactics in the lead up to election day. A perception that did not appeal to a majority of Australians, boosting Albanese’s image as a kind and stable leader.

Trumpian Tactics Lead to Low Approval Rating

Other than all the lying, cheating, deflection, and self-enrichment that Trump enables there are other factors that contribute to the dislike of Trump and the lowest approval rating of any sitting president.

·        Economic concerns, only one third of Americans approve of Trump’s incompetent handling of the economy. Fears are rising that a recession is inevitable.

·        Tariffs, a foolish self-inflicted strategy of a trade war with the rest of the world adds real financial pain for Americans trying to manage cost of living issues.

·        Volatile leadership as demonstrated by that infamous Whitehouse meeting with Ukraine leader President Zelensky.

·        Falling support from key groups. Farmers, Hispanics, parts of the Black community, businesspeople, and conservative, Republican voters, have all expressed regret at voting for Trump.

·        Association with Elon Musk and Doge.

·        After one hundred days, the honeymoon ended with a nightmare.

Canada

Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party followed the Trump playbook. Although his party remains relevant after the general election, Poilievre lost his own seat. His toxic, confrontational style led to the liberal resurgence that got Mark Carney elected as Prime Minister again.

Europe

In the United Kingdom, Nigel Farage has gained some popularity, with seats in parliament. Although he adopts Trumpian tactics his gain resulted from the incumbent party losing the election due to slashing aspects of the health service among others, a Trumpian tactic. In France, Marine Le Pen has followed aspects of Trumps style in a French context, at the same time distancing herself from Trump and maintaining her independent policies.

Summary

Citizens of the United States and other countries are coming to realize that the chaotic policies and morals of Trump are toxic and destructive. His desire to become an authoritarian for life is dangerous for people everywhere. Maga retreating in influence is exceptionally good for the planet.
