“I have some great players chasing me, and it's gonna take another really good round.” Scottie Scheffler, after the third round.

‘You wouldn’t want to bet against him finishing the tournament as PGA champion’. I wrote in yesterday’s blog. My brother likes to take a small sports bet on occasion. Scottie Scheffler was part of the bet he placed; he may have made a tiny profit.
The Chasers
Harris English set the early pace with superb 65 in the final round, setting a target of -6 or better to win. John Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and J. T. Poston applied some pressure throughout the round. DeChambeau couldn’t get the putts to drop, despite excellent drives and approaches. He continues to be a powerhouse at the majors; adding second equal to Scottie to go with the high finish at this year’s Masters and is defending champion at next month’s US Open. J.T. Poston got within two strokes but finished six off the pace.
John Rahm
Up to the tenth Rahm’s putter was hot, needing only 11 putts to get through the front nine. As Rahm headed to the twelfth hole, with momentum on his side, it looked as though he could be picking up the championship crown. On the thirteenth another great putt lipped out.
You need luck on your side to win a major championship. The fourteenth par four, Rahm hit a magnificent drive, the line was spot on. Unfortunately, when it landed the bounce was bad, kicking into the bunker, instead of toward the pin. His splash out of the bunker was not his best, coming up short, his birdie putt pushed. Fourteenth, a scoring hole turned into a par. Luck had turned for Rahm with that shocking bounce. The fifteenth another scoring hole, Rahm could not birdie.
The Green Mile – Quail Hollow Golf Course
Into the ‘Green Mile’, Rahm chasing Scheffler, paid a heavy price for his boldness. When both he and Scheffler were on the leaderboard at nine under, it was inconceivable Rahm would finish so badly and end the round seven strokes back. A statistic comparing scoring for holes 14 and 15, had those holes at approximately 400 plus strokes under par for the field. The ‘Green Mile’, holes 16, 17, and 18, the statistic was approximately 500 plus over par.
Scotty Scheffler
The PGA Championship 2025 is the third major win for Scheffler. Add to his 15 previous PGA tournament wins, some commentators suggest Scheffler matches the early Tiger Woods career. Scheffler is the number ranked player at 28 years of age. He has an enviable career to date with a reputation that shadows the great Tiger Woods. Success for Scheffler, due to his golfing skills and quiet determination, is expected to continue in the years ahead.
