“Stone Cold Liar.” Governor Gavin Newsom

Trump’s Policy
Donald Trump used a classic authoritarian strategy, an aggressive and all-encompassing immigration policy. The policy authorized the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to enter communities across the United States. Although not a new law or a single policy giving credence to the raids, Trump’s administration’s priorities and directives led to a dramatic increase in arrests and deportations.
Catalyst for Protest
Protests began on Friday, June 6, 2025, after ICE officials conducted a series of arrests in the Los Angeles area. The operations resulted in the arrest of dozens of immigrants. Protests erupted as a direct response to ICE enforcing Trump’s priorities. Demonstrators attempted to block federal agents from removing alleged illegal immigrants in vans and gathering outside facilities where detainees were believed to be held.
Before Trump Stuck his Nose In
Before President Trump ordered the deployment of active-duty military (Marines) and federalized National Guard troops to Los Angeles, Governor Newsom made strong public statements in opposition to the federal immigration enforcement operations.
Strong Public Condemnation: Gov Newsom immediately and vocally criticized the ICE raids and the Trump administration's broader immigration enforcement strategy. He called the federal actions "illegal and immoral," a "brazen abuse of power," and accused Trump of "fanning the flames" and "inflaming a combustible situation."
Emphasis on Peaceful Protest: Gov Newsom consistently differentiated between the peaceful protests and any instances of violence or looting, urging peaceful protesters not to play into Trump's narrative.
Direct Communication (and lack thereof): Newsom's office confirmed he spoke with President Trump for about 40 minutes at one point, though it's unclear if this occurred before or after Trump announced the initial National Guard deployment. However, Newsom repeatedly stated that the federal government was acting without consulting California leaders or obtaining his consent for the deployment of the California National Guard.
Legal Action (Lawsuit and Emergency Motion): This was the most significant action Newsom took.
Filed a lawsuit: The state of California, under Governor Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration (including President Trump, Défense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Department of Défense). This lawsuit challenged the federalization of the California National Guard, arguing it was an "unprecedented power grab" and illegal under the U.S. Constitution, which generally requires the governor's consent for such actions.
Filed an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order: As part of this lawsuit, Newsom filed an emergency motion in federal court asking a judge to immediately block the use of the federalized National Guard and the newly deployed Marines for immigration enforcement purposes on the streets of Los Angeles. This motion specifically aimed to prevent them from assisting with ICE raids, including holding secure perimeters or interacting with civilians. He argued that their deployment created "imminent harm to State Sovereignty" and would "escalate tensions and promote (rather than quell) civil unrest."
Essentially, Governor Newsom's primary response before the full military deployment (which included the Marines in addition to the federalized National Guard) was to loudly condemn the federal actions and to initiate legal proceedings to prevent what he viewed as an unlawful militarization of his state.11
Summary
Trump ordered hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles until more National Guard troops arrived. It is an escalation in President Donald Trump's response to street protests over his aggressive immigration policies.
This autocratic move is in Trump’s own selfish move to be declared the first emperor of the USA. He will do everything in his power to rule until his death. To do that he must divide and conquer the people of the United States of America. Trump will destroy and ignore the constitution, and any law by rigging or simply ignoring the courts. He will move to position his acolytes politically and militarily to control the armed forces.
Trump’s intervention in Los Angeles despite Newsom’s clear objections shows Trump to be a “Stone Cold Liar.”
