"Home ownership is the cornerstone of a strong community." - Rick Renzi

Cliff Curtis

There is an alternative to the banks.

Cliff Curtis

Reading the news the name, Cliff Curtis, caught my eye. The headline proclaimed, ‘NZ Actor Cliff Curtis gets on board build-to-own newcomers Bloxx.’ I have followed the career of actor and producer, of Maori descent, Chris Curtis ever since I saw him in the movie, ‘Once Were Warriors.’ His credits in film and television are extensive, his latest film is a sequel to Avatar due for release in 2025. Why I wondered would Curtis be associated with a building company?

Bloxx

Bloxx offers an alternative to saving a big deposit, getting a mortgage from the bank and

skimping year by year to make that weekly mortgage payment.

The website states, “Bloxx is addressing the housing crisis head-on, ensuring that home

ownership is an affordable reality for Kiwis. Our mission is simple, get Kiwis into homes.”

The Bloxx approach is unique. To solve the problem for people who have little chance of

owning a home, under the present system, Bloxx is encouraging prospective homeowners to join the movement. A movement that has Bloxx replacing the mortgage on a 1% deposit, with affordable payments and building equity 3 times faster than paying off a mortgage.

Chris Curtis and Bloxx

Having had a successful career, Curtis had the good fortune to be able to buy his own home. His success made it clear to him that other Kiwis were not so fortunate. It would take others many years to save a 20% deposit, then having to cope with a weekly mortgage. It is not possible on one income or even two incomes of 50k to 60k each.

Curtis added, “I've done pretty well in life… and I've managed to help some of my family

and friends. But I've seen this housing crisis. Really, I think it stems back from the 1990s

when there was a policy to relinquish a commitment to social housing… from his perspective Bloxx had an approach worth trying.”

Bloxx Co-founder and managing director Chris Smith, alongside fellow co-founders Brett

Pietersen, Samuel Moore, and Hayden Schaw, have extensive experience in banking, construction, legal, and corporate finance. The task ahead for them and Chris Curtis, who is on the advisory board, is immense. It will require billions in investment to help the movement be successful.

Home Ownership

There are considerable benefits for individuals, families and society to own their own home. Bloxx to become mainstream in public consciousness and success has considerable upside for the country. Checkout the Bloxx website and join the movement.
