Golf for Fun

"Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated." – Arnold Palmer

ree

Want to enjoy some friendly competition.

My idea of golf fun is time at the driving range or a day on the golf course. Real fun to me is golf on a beautiful summer day, the sun is out, the course is in great shape, the company friendly and my worst score is a bogey mixed in with a par here and there.

Games within games was nearest the pin, longest drive, or lowest score off the stick for a pie and coke. Some suggested a dollar a hole, but my friends and I never played that way. We don’t have the budget of Micheal Jordan.

Copilot came up with these.

1. Bingo Bango Bonga is a points-based betting game adding more excitement to each hole. Points are awarded for three achievements, getting on the green first, being closest to the pin, once all balls are on the green, and holing out first. The goal is to earn the most points during the round.

2. Cha Cha Cha. Not a dance, a twist on the traditional four-ball format. On each

hole only the best ball counts, one on the 1st hole, two on the second, and so

on. It keeps things interesting as the team strategy changes throughout the

round.

3. Flaps. Similar to “double or quits,” this game spices up shots from off the

green. If a player shouts “flap” before the ball’s first bounce they must hole out

with the next shot to win the hole. Otherwise, they lose it. And if their

opponents shout “double,” the stakes get even higher.

4. Ghost play a fourball, better ball, match play, with three real players and one

imaginary player, the ghost. The ghost always makes par on every hole,

adding an intriguing twist to the game.

5. Turn a short par 4 into a drivable par 4. Want an adrenalin rush, set up a

short par 4 where players can go for the green off the tee. It’s risk and reward.
